Sunset kayaking over the
Shell Key Preserve
We launch three hours before sunset, meeting you in Tierra Verde right where the waterline borders the Shell Key Preserve. There's time to paddle unhurried — through the mangrove tunnels, over the seagrass flats, out toward open water — while the afternoon light softens into gold.
We time the turn so you're facing the Shell Key treeline as the sun goes down. It's the same preserve as our daytime tour, but the evening changes everything: the water goes still, the colors deepen, and the wildlife comes out to feed in the cooler air.
And here's the part we actually plan around: you're off the water and back to your vehicle before full nightfall — before the no-see-ums and mosquitoes come out. A sunset paddle that ends comfortably, not swatting your way back to the car in the pitch black.

WHY SUNSET

Perfectly timed to the sun
and to keep you comfortable
Most sunset kayak tours either launch too late and rush you along the way, or leave you fumbling back to the launch in the dark. We plan the whole tour around the sun: enough time to paddle and take it in, watching the sunset itself over the preserve, and a return that has you dry, packed, and driving off before the night-time bugs arrive.
Golden-hour water without the after-dark hassle.
AT GOLDEN HOUR
Wildlife at dusk on a
sunset kayak tour
Evening is the most active time on the water. As the sun drops toward the bottom of the horizon you may share the paddle with: dolphins feeding in the channels, manatees in the warmer months, rays gliding over the flats, and shorebirds — herons, ospreys, pelicans — settling in along the mangroves for the night.
Wildlife is never guaranteed, but dusk is when the preserve is busiest.

Frequently Asked Questions
What time do we launch?
Three hours before sunset — the exact time shifts through the year, and your booking shows the departure time for your date. You'll be back to your vehicle before dark.
Do I need experience?
No. Our kayaks are stable and beginner-friendly, and your guide handles the route and timing so you can just paddle and take in the sunset.
What kind of kayak is this?
Comfortable, stable sit-on-top kayaks — easy for first-timers and easy to relax in while you watch the sun go down. Same price as our daytime Shell Key tour.
Where do we meet?
2960 Pinellas Bayway South, Tierra Verde — the waterline there borders the Shell Key Preserve, so you launch straight in.
Will we see wildlife?
Often — dusk is feeding time. Dolphins, manatees (warmer months), rays, and shorebirds are common, though never guaranteed.
What should I bring?
Sun protection, water, and something you don't mind getting a little wet. We provide the kayaks and all equipment.
